The Road Starter Bundle includes two pre-waxed chains, a bottle of Tru-Tension Tungsten All-Weather lubricant, and a microfiber cloth. Because road cycling places less mechanical stress on the drivetrain than off-road riding, a single chain can typically be used for approximately one month before rotation is necessary.

With the Road Starter Bundle, you ride with one chain for a month, then switch to the second. When making the swap, simply return the used chain to us for professional cleaning and re-waxing. Attach the pre-paid return label to the provided package and drop it off—everything required for return shipping is included in your subscription at no additional cost. We guarantee a turnaround time of no more than 15 days, ensuring you always have a freshly treated chain ready to ride. We also recommend choosing a consistent monthly date for chain exchanges to simplify your routine.

To maintain optimal chain performance and prevent premature wear, Silca Endurance treated chains should be lubricated as follows: reapply lubricant after 1000km in dry conditions, then every 200 km thereafter, or immediately after any wet ride. Regular maintenance is essential for preserving drivetrain efficiency and extending component lifespan, especially in wet environments.

Additional Items Required (if not already owned):

99% isopropyl alcohol (for thorough degreasing

A small spray bottle (for alcohol application)

Chain-link pliers (for safe and efficient quick-link removal and installation)

Is Shipping Free?

Yes! Shipping is completely free both ways for our subscription chain service. Prepaid return shipping is included every time you send a chain back to us, so there are no additional shipping costs at any point during your subscription.

How Long does the Wax Coating Last?

In dry road conditions, the wax coating typically lasts around 1,000 km. In dry off-road conditions, expect approximately 700 km due to higher contamination.

If you get caught in the rain, simply apply a quick application of Tru-Tension to restore quiet, smooth operation. After the initial wax life, apply Tru-Tension every 200 km, or any time the chain begins to sound dry or noisy.

Simply put: any time you get caught in the rain, or every 200 km after the initial wax life, apply Tru-Tension.

How Do I Apply the Tru-Tension Lubricant?

Step 1: Clean the Chain

Before applying Tru-Tension Tungsten All-Weather Lube, it’s essential to remove any dirt, moisture, or contaminants from the chain. This ensures proper wax adhesion and optimal performance.

What you’ll need:

  • 99% isopropyl alcohol (available at most pharmacies or online)
  • A clean microfiber cloth
  • A small spray bottle (to apply the alcohol)

Instructions:

  1. Shift into a straight chainline: the middle of the cassette and the largest front chainring.
  2. Spray one full coat of isopropyl alcohol directly onto the chain while turning the cranks backward to cover the entire length.
  3. Lightly spray the alcohol onto a clean microfiber cloth.
  4. Hold the cloth at the bottom span of the chain (between the lower pulley and the crankset), and rotate the cranks backward 15–20 times, allowing the chain to pass through the alcohol-soaked cloth.
  5. Wait at least 5 minutes for the alcohol to fully evaporate and dry.

While the chain is drying, shake the lube bottle thoroughly. Wax-based drip lubes contain friction-reducing additives that settle over time—shaking ensures everything is fully mixed and ready for use.

Step 2: Apply Tru-Tension Tungsten All-Weather Lube

  • Apply one drop to each roller (the small rotating pins between chain links).
  • Do this on the lower section of the chain, between the jockey wheels and chainrings.
  • Maintain a straight chainline (middle of cassette, large front chainring).
  • It’s okay to use slightly more to ensure all rollers are evenly coated.

Step 3: Work the Lube Into the Chain

  1. In the same chain position, pinch the top and bottom of the chain with your fingers and rotate the cranks backward 15–20 times.
  2. Shift into the smallest front chainring and smallest rear cog, and backpedal 15–20 times.
  3. Then shift into the largest front ring and largest rear cog, and pedal forward (or backward, if your setup allows) 20 more times.

This sequence helps distribute the lubricant thoroughly through the internal surfaces of the chain.

Step 4: Let It Cure and Remove Excess

Dry Time: Let the chain dry for 10–15 minutes.

Use a clean microfiber cloth to remove excess lube from:

  • The chain
  • The chainrings
  • The cassette
  • The pulley wheels

From greasy mess to perfectly clean, professional quality chains

You know that one chain that just feels right the moment you ride it?

This is an entire system built around that feeling.

We take chains from a greasy mess to perfectly clean and race-quality, every time.

No black hands. No noise. No friction stealing your watts.

Ride any DecaWatts chain and feel what it’s like when your drivetrain finally disappears beneath you.

Once you do, you’ll wonder how you ever rode any other way.

  • Prepared With Purpose

Built by cyclists, for cyclists, DecaWatts prepares chains in small batches using a precise, repeatable process; because consistency, cleanliness, and performance should never be left to chance.

  • Chain Performance Starts With Wax

Did you know wax keeps your chain cleaner and lasting longer?

Did you know it repels dirt instead of attracting it?

Did you know a waxed chain runs quieter and more efficiently?

That’s why we use wax: it’s simply better.

  • 25,000 km Per Chain!?!

Yes, you read that right. Our waxed chains last up to 10× longer than oil-lubed chains, with lifespan reaching up to 25,000 km. Less wear, fewer replacements, and a drivetrain that keeps performing ride after ride.

That’s what happens when chain maintenance is done right.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the DecaWatts subscription really worth the cost?

Yes, most riders save money over time.

While the upfront cost may seem higher than traditional chain lube or occasional shop visits, the DecaWatts system dramatically reduces drivetrain wear. By keeping your chain fully decontaminated and properly waxed every month, chains last significantly longer and, more importantly, so do cassettes and chainrings, which are far more expensive to replace.

Many customers find that avoiding even one cassette or chainring replacement more than offsets the cost of the subscription. Add in fewer shop visits, no cleaning supplies, no tools, and no time spent on maintenance, and the savings become clear.

In short: you’re not just paying for chain care; you’re paying to replace parts less often, ride a better-performing bike, and avoid unnecessary maintenance costs.

If I already wax my chain at home, will I still see a performance benefit from your subscription?

Yes, unequivocally.

Even if you already wax your chain at home, our subscription will still make a meaningful difference. Each chain we service goes through over two hours of full decontamination and professional re-waxing, allowing us to achieve a level of precision, cleanliness, and consistency that simply isn’t possible at home or at a typical bike shop. Every trace of old wax, grease, and contamination is removed before fresh wax is applied, ensuring the chain is truly reset each time.

Beyond performance, the convenience is unmatched. You don’t need to strip, clean, heat wax, or manage timing; we handle everything for you. This controlled process not only delivers consistently low friction and quiet operation, but also allows chains to last significantly longer, because they are fully decontaminated before every single re-waxing cycle.

In short: better results, longer chain life, and zero effort on your part.

Can I use my current chain, or do I need to purchase new chains?

To deliver the best possible results, all DecaWatts customers begin with a Starter Bundle that includes brand-new, professionally waxed chains. Starting from new allows us to control the process from day one; ensuring complete decontamination, consistent waxing, and optimal performance throughout the life of the chain.

When rotated through the subscription, these chains are designed to last a combined total of up to 50,000 km, meaning they are very likely the last chains your bike will need for a long time. This approach ensures you experience the full benefits of the DecaWatts system: a cleaner, quieter drivetrain, longer component life, and consistently low friction.

We require the Starter Bundle so every customer gets the best possible experience from the subscription and the waxing process; without compromises.

What should I do if my chain starts making noise or I get caught in the rain?

If your chain starts making noise or you get caught in the rain, there’s no need to worry. Waxed chains are designed to run clean and quiet, but heavy rain or extended wet conditions can temporarily wash away surface wax and increase noise.

In those cases, simply dry the chain and apply a light top-up using the included Tru-Tension Tungsten All-Weather lubricant. This will quiet the chain and protect it until your next scheduled monthly service. When your chain comes back to us, it will be fully decontaminated and professionally re-waxed, restoring it to peak condition.

Occasional noise after wet rides is normal, and it won’t harm the chain or drivetrain as long as it’s addressed with a quick top-up. Your monthly service ensures everything is fully reset and kept running perfectly.

How and when should I apply Tru-Tension to my chain?

Tru-Tension should be applied after the initial 1,000 km of dry riding on your waxed chain, and then every 200 km thereafter. It should also be applied any time you get caught in the rain.

If your chain ever begins to sound dry or make noise, a quick application of Tru-Tension will quickly restore quiet, smooth operation until your next scheduled service.
